A persistent link (also known as a permalink, durable link, or stable link) is a URL that connects directly to a specific full-text article or other content in a library database. Using a persistent link, will ensure students and other authorized users can access library materials off-campus when you share them. They will automatically be prompted to enter their DMACC network username and password.

The pages you see in library databases are temporary pages generated by your search. Once your search session has ended, if you saved the URL of a page (as you might do with an ordinary web site) to return to later or share, it won't work or be accessible later.

Most databases offer an option to get a persistent link to an item; it will differ by database what this option is called and where to find it on the page, but most often it is represented by a chain link icon.
